Waste to Energy Through Gasification of Tires, Plastics & MSW
Waste to Energy
Waste to energy through gasification treats a waste stream as stored chemical energy rather than as tonnage to be buried. End-of-life tires, mixed plastics and municipal solid waste all carry a high carbon and hydrogen content, and a gasification plant releases that content as a usable gas instead of letting it decay in a landfill cell for decades.
Three Energy Outputs, One Platform
- Renewable electricity: gas-fired generation on site, exported to the grid or to an industrial neighbour.
- Process heat and steam: in Norway, a Klean project installed an integrated steam superheater fuelled by pyrolysis gas, carrying a genuine industrial heat duty.
- Fuels and commodities: pipeline-quality syngas, hydrogen 5.0, SAF, methanol and ethanol for projects that want a traded product rather than a power contract.
Why Gasification Rather Than Disposal
Disposal converts a waste stream into a recurring cost with no residual value. Gasification converts the same stream into gas, power and co-products that can be sold. The Japanese reference makes the point plainly: a 1 MW biomass gasification plant delivered with Chubu Electric, Seiko Epson and Toyama produces renewable electricity and biochar, so the plant earns from both the energy and the solid carbon it makes.
Integrating Several Waste Streams
Few sites have only one problem material. A German eco-industrial-park project integrated waste-tire gasification with plastic liquefaction, letting two streams share a site, a utility backbone and an operating team. For a municipality or an industrial park, that integration is usually what makes the numbers work, because the fixed costs of a facility are spread across more than one feedstock contract.
Getting From Tonnage to a Project
A credible waste-to-energy project starts with the feedstock: what it is, how much arrives, how it varies through the year, and who is contractually obliged to deliver it. From there the product slate and plant size follow. Klean Industries licenses scalable technologies on a build-own-operate basis and carries design, engineering, procurement, construction and commissioning, so a municipality or developer can hand over the technical risk and keep the waste contract and the offtake relationship.
